Remington 870P Tactical Question
Looking to pick up a Remington 870 police model with a 14" barrel. Have gone through the necessary first hoop and am now ready to pay the $200 ATF fee and wait 12-14 weeks. Problem is, none of my local dealers can come up with one. So I'm thinking...should I just buy an 870P with an 18" barrel and then have my gunsmith convert it i.e. lop off 4"? Or would such a weapon under-perform compared to a factory 870P Tactical?

Re: Remington 870P Tactical Question
Buy the 870P with 18 inch barrel and leave it alone. What advantage is a shotgun 4 inches shorter? You must register it and pay out more money...not sure why you would do this.

Re: Remington 870P Tactical Question
Ive got to go with silvercity on this one
Unless you are pistol gripping it and putting a folding stock on it so you can tuck it in a pack or keep it in your car, I see little reason in paying the extra money. If you're going to have a fixed stock on it anyways, an 18.5 inch barrel is just fine for home defense/CQB. If you are getting it cause you really want to, then go for it. Its your money and if you have no problem paying out extra money and waiting a few extra months to get it, thats fine and by all means do so. |

Re: Remington 870P Tactical Question
I would get the 870HD (18") and then get the Choate 2 round extension (7 rounds) and a SpecOps stock with the cash you save on the stamp. That 14" must only hold 4 rounds in the magazine.

Not a concern unless..........you need one more round! I would agree with the others, Keep you 870 in the length that you don't have to register it and add an extended magazine to it. There are tons of things you can do if you are looking for the cool factor in the 870. If you really want/need a short 870 go "Super Short". $5.00 transfer "tax" not $200: http://www.serbu.com/top/superShorty.php If you want an autoloading "combat" shotgun and you want to register it look here: http://www.tromix.com/saiga.htm It's only money! |
Re: Remington 870P Tactical Question
Get an 18" shotgun first, shoot it, then see if you want it shorter. You won't.

Re: Remington 870P Tactical Question
If you want a 14" 870P, have your SOT/NFA dealer talk with a Remington LE distributor, not just a regular Remington distributor. 870P models, especially the NFA models, must go through Remington LE or one of their distributors and must be shipped to a dealer with a SOT. The list of LE distributors is at this link:
http://www.remingtonle.com/support/w...ler_directory/ The catalog numbers are 24429 for a black Speedfeed synthetic stocked parkerized 14" barrel with bead sights and 24431 for a black Speedfeed synthetic stocked parkerized 14" barrel with rifle sights. Both are choked Modified. There is also an orange Speedfeed stocked model meant for "less lethal" rounds. It is choked Improved Cylinder and its catalog number is 24441. |
